As Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Cary Kottler is responsible for all legal, regulatory and compliance matters for Clean Line. These responsibilities includes state and federal permitting processes, FERC matters, litigation, corporate compliance, financing arrangements, commercial agreements and construction contracts for Clean Line’s electric transmission and wind energy projects. In addition, Cary also holds responsibility for business development initiatives and transaction execution. Prior to serving in his current role, Cary held positions at Clean Line with responsibility for project management and development.
Prior to joining Clean Line, Cary was a corporate attorney for Vinson & Elkins in Houston, Texas, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, project development and private equity investments across the energy and power sector, both domestically and internationally.
Originally from Michigan, Cary grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, which fostered his love of the outdoors in the Southwest. An avid hiker and skier, Cary now lives in Houston with his wife, Meredith, and two daughters. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Rice University while captaining the rugby team, and a Juris Doctor from UCLA School of Law. Cary was a founding member of Empower Nepali Girls, a non-profit organization that provides educational opportunities to at-risk children in Nepal. He currently serves on the advisory board of Key Capture Energy, a development company focused on utility-scale battery storage.
